AIDS Walk LA

Mon Sep 28, 2009, 10:43 PM
Hey everyone!

I hope you're all enjoying Autumn as much as I am. I've had three pumpkin pie shakes today alone, and it's starting to cool down at night, which is excellent.

So anywaaaay, I'm excited to be participating in the 25th Annual LA AIDS Walk on October 18th. It's the first time I've done something like this, but I'm really looking forward to it. I don't know anyone personally who is battling HIV/AIDS, but I'm aware that it's a terrible thing, and I want to do anything I can to help fund research to find better treatment options.

If you've been watching the news, you may have heard that a series of vaccines has been developed that has shown to decrease the likelihood a person has to contract HIV by 31%. This series of vaccines is the first to have shown any promise in the fight against the disease, and it's development is very good news. We're finally making substantial progress, and now is a great time to support the fight either by walking or by donating to the fund.

If you live in the Los Angeles area and are available to walk, it's not too late to register (for free!) and start collecting donations yourself. Send me a note if you're planning on walking so we can meet up and walk together!

CLICK HERE to visit the AIDS Walk LA homepage and register!

If you're unable to participate but would like to make a donation, I'm trying to collect as much as I can and would appreciate your help!

CLICK HERE to make a donation!

Also, 50% of all profit made from Pon and Zi Comic Prints sold through azuzephre.net between now and October 14th will be donated as well. I'd say that's an excellent way to earn some good karma and score some AzuPrints in the process. Hahaha.

That is really, really cool. No lie! I wish I could donate or participate, but alas, I am in college (broke) and in Alabama (too far away).
I love to see people support causes like that (I mean the 50% of prints thing)! I am a type 1 diabetic and we are campaigning for our JDRF walk a thon right now, as well. It's sometime in late October where we are, but I digress.

I commented just to say how awesome it is that you're supporting a cause and publicizing it!

LA is only about 2 hours South of me, but I have no car and probably no means of getting work off, otherwise I would TOTALLY be down for this. D:

What a great event to support, and thank you for spreading the news so that maybe some people near and able to join will be recruited! I should think a walk with you would be motivation enough to sway some volunteers your way, hahaha!

I'm so, so skeptical of that vaccine. You're talking about the one from Thailand, right? Have you read the actual study facts sheet on it? The details are incredibly sketchy, and when they're all put together they don't actually point to any strong, concrete data that would indicate any effectiveness.

I really want to be proven wrong, but...

Even so, continuing to fight is important. If they find out that the vaccines are ineffective, perhaps it's still a step closer.

With fingers crossed,

ya know? it's funny, we just talked about the new HIV vaccine in my microbiology class today. no the details are not concrete yet, but then, it's still in like the first stage of human trials. also it is heads and tails better than the last one that that hit human trials (the rate of infection actually was higher than normal with that one but then it was used on sex workers while the new one is being tested on average non-sex worker type people). I could go into more details but i digress.
anyhow, the whole reason for this... where do you get pumpkin pie shakes? I haven't had one since i moved like a million miles away from the nearest Steak n Shake =(

Jack in the Box has them. <333 If I wasn't so sleepy, I'd totally drive out for another one right now, and it's 4am. Hahaha.

Really, I can't describe how excited I am that it's Autumn again. Anything pumpkin is wonderful. Pumpkin lattes, pumpkin scones, pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin shakes, pumpkin muffins, etc. <3333333

When I finallllly get over my pumpkin binge, Egg Nog shows up at the market and I get to start all over with that. Hahaha.
